UNDP DONATES TO POLICE

333393The United Nations development program (UNDP) has today donated items to the Uganda Police Force to help in the fight against Covid-19.

The items worth millions of shillings were handed over by the UNDP Deputy Resident Representative, Ms Sheila Ngatia, to the Police Chief of Staff, AIGP Jack Bakasumba, at a function held at Police Headquarters, Naguru.

“The items we are handing over this morning include 92,000 face masks;7,400 litres of Sanitizer liquid; 500 Automatic sanitizer dispensers and 80,000 litres of liquid soap worth Uganda shillings 603,060,000. These items will benefit over 45,000 officers of the Uganda Police Force across the country. This is part of UNDP’s contribution to the novel corona virus disease (COVID-19) national response,” said Ms Ngatia.

She noted that the Uganda Police Force is one of the frontline institutions in fostering law and order and enabling justice services and responsive governance. In doing so, she said, Uganda Police Force personnel; greatly interface with the public which predisposes them to the risk of contracting COVID-19. “We are thus pleased to be partnering with you in strengthening the Uganda Police Force’s response and resilience to COVID-19,” she added.

In his speech, the Chief of Joint Staff AIGP Bakasumba, thanked the UNDP for the kind gesture saying the donation will further cooperation between UNDP and the Police Force.
