TRIUMPHANT POLICING ENSURES SMOOTH AND SECURE BUSOGA ROYAL WEDDING

The Busoga Kingdom hosted over 3000 guests at the Royal wedding that took place on November 18, 2023 at the Christ Cathedral Bugembe in Jinja city. The Kyabazinga of Busoga His Majesty William Wilberforce Kadhumbula Gabula Nadiope IV formally wedded the Inhebantu Her Royal Highness Jovia Mutesi.

The thorough joint security deployments at the church, main reception at Igenge palace, Kingdom headquarters, Kyabazinga stadium, Trans Africa highway of Jinja – Iganga – Bugiri – Busia border and other reception centers coupled with the massive cooperation from members of the public led to the colorful, effective and efficient policing of the Royal Wedding.

The city centre and the Jinja – Iganga highway experienced heavy traffic jam but Jinja traffic police ably regulated the traffic flow to allow easy movement of people and vehicles.

The Uganda Police Force applauds the joint security teams of the Police, UPDF and Inteligence services for displaying high levels of discipline, teamwork and professionalism and ensured a safe, secure and successful event. Apart from the tragic accident that was registered at Nawantumbi, NawanyagoSubcounty, along Kamuli Jinja road  about, 20 kilometers from Kamuli Municipality.

We sincerely thank the people of Busoga for the valued cooperation exhibited towards security personnel before, during and after the Royal wedding. Mostly importantly, the media played very significant role in creating awareness of security and the whole proceedings of the function.

On a sad note, the Uganda Police condoles with the people of Busoga and mostly the families of the nine deceased and continue to pray for the recovery of the three victims that are still hospitalised. Investigations into the cause of the accident are underway and we continue looking for the errant driver of super custom Motor vehicle registration number UAZ 742U who is on the run.

Proggressive inquiries indicate that, 09 people lost lives, and they have been identified as; 

  1. Isabirye Godfrey 40 resident, Nawantumbi.
  2. Abbo Kevin 12 
  3. Waiswa Lubale 30
  4. Mutasa Ema10
  5. Nabirye Katono 37
  6. Mutakubwa Amisi
  7. Namulondo Prossy 24
  8. Basone Sandé Godfrey 2 months old
  9. Mutesi Zalika 40.

 

The following victims are still admitted at Kamuli general hospital;

1. Namusooko Florence 30,

2. Waiswa Henry 37, and

3. Ndhego Jamar 27. 

Two victims discharged from the hospital have been identified as Sam Kitimbo 3months, and Nambogwe Mariam 20, while Nakisuyi Sauda 40 has been referred to Jinja Regional referral hospital. 

Out of the total number, 06 people died on spot and others succumbed to severe injuries from the health facilities where they had been admitted.

The incident involving supercustom Motor vehicle registration number UAZ 742U, occurred at Nawantumbi, Nawanyago Subcounty, along Kamuli Jinja road about, 20 kilometers from Kamuli Municipality.

It’s alleged that at around 1040/C, the motor vehicle which was part of the Kyabazinga royal wedding team convoy lost  control and rammed into road side viewers
