SECURITY READINESS TOWARDS THE NAM/G77-CHINA SUMMIT

Latest Posts Press Release

As you are all aware, Uganda as a country is hosting the NAM/ IGAD/G77+CHINA Summit, that is scheduled to start from 15.01.2024 up to 23.01.2024, at Speke Resort, Munyonyo. Some of the International delegates have started arriving in the country. We have ensured their safe arrival and would like to warmly welcome them to the county. The double summit is expected to attract over 4000 foreign and local delegates, whose safety and security remains our number one priority. The summit will host crucial world leaders including Heads of States, representatives of Government and International Organisations/Agencies.

As the Joint Security Agencies, we would like to inform the public that we have been working very hard to ensure the summits are safe and secure. We have put in place a comprehensive security arrangement, that considers several dimensions, ranging from the Airport Security, Marine Security, management of Convoys, access controls, security at venues and hotels, close protection, aerial Surveillance for suspicious activity, first aid and quick medical response, crime prevention and proactive policing, public order management, and counter-terror measures, among others.

As always, we shall not reveal the specifics of our security detail. But as already observed, security within Kampala City, and the Greater Kampala area has been tightened, with highly visible and non-visible manpower, to purposely detect, deter and disrupt any range of criminal activity. We also have search and screening technology, dedicated K9 teams, overt and covert officers, deployed in and around all venues and routes, CCTV monitoring and communication centers, a command centre at the venue etc. We have, in addition, specialist response teams at selected locations and patrollers in rapid reaction formations. Those wide ranges of security measures are not fixed and are constantly being renewed, to ensure they remain effective and appropriate.

To the delegates, we warmly welcome them to the Pearl of Africa, and re assure them that there are no specific threats directed towards the Summit. We continue to work together with the organizers to ensure the summit has the most appropriate safety and policing plan. All delegates are encouraged to interact and cooperate with the requests of our security teams, in and around venues, especially at the check and search points, as well as obtain security updates from them.

To all Ugandans, this is a major moment for us to shine on the world stage. Let us remain friendly and hospitable, like we have always been. Both our community liaison and Public Relations team, will continue to share information with families, local businesses and essential service providers, that will be impacted by security measures in the neighborhoods. We further remind them to be vigilant and report anything that does not feel right, like unattended items, suspicious or unwanted behavior from someone, to our Security officers at the Venues. For any crime and safety concerns, please do not hesitate to call the National Operations Command Centre on 0776-999-136.

We wish all the delegates and well wishers a safe and enjoyment Summit.
