Prime Minister to EAPCCO- Enhance Regional security

The Rt. Hon. Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda has urged the Eastern and African Police Chiefs Cooperation (EAPCCO) to work towards enhancement of regional security.

Rugunda was speaking yesterday at the closure of the 5-day police chiefs’ retreat held at Speke Resort Hotel, Munyonyo.

“The fact that regional police chiefs find time to discuss matters that affect the region is something that should be encouraged. Use approaches like community policing, capacity building, setting up regional centers of excellence to generalize specialized capabilities with the EAPCCO localities” Rugunda said adding, advising the police chiefs to keep close eyes on crimes such as human trafficking, terrorism, cross border crimes and drug abuse so to secure political security environment.

Earlier, Internal Affairs Minister Gen Jeje Odong had said, “We will look at proactive ways in which we can fight crime and I have no doubt that the coming on board of DRC will bring an added value to this family. We should always be thinking outside the box to bring matters into a complete action”

While speaking at the event, EAPCCO Chairman elect, Gen Kale Kayihura lauded his colleagues for the creativity aimed at enhancing a concrete cooperation in fighting against crime within African continent.

The week long retreat was held under the theme, “enhancing cooperation and innovation in combating transnational emerging organized crimes”, an event 14 member states participated.
