On 20/3/2018 at 1830hrs, at Kapugan Police detach in Kapujan Sub County, Katakwi district, NO.5008 PC Omara Alfred Otto shot and killed two of his colleagues and one civilian.

The deceased were identified as:

  1. 39245 CPL Nandutu Lillian, who was the Officer in Charge (OC) detach.
  2. 47091 PC Erimu Julius.
  3. Anyait Esther a civilian and a girl friend to the suspect.

The Officers were all attached to the Anti Stock Theft Unit (ASTU).

It is alleged that Omara’s girl friend approached the OC to resolve their misunderstanding. The OC summoned Omara in order to resolve the issue, in the process Omara got up went to his hut picked a gun and shot the three dead.

Two civilians were injured and are currently admitted in Katakwi Health Center IV. They were identified as Emiligant D. whose both legs were shattered by bullets and one Owunyu Joseph who fell in a ditch and broke his leg.

PC Omara later disappeared with his gun and later committed suicide. The body and his gun were recovered from Bisina stream. All the bodies are in Katakwi Health Center IV.

This was a regrettable incident and we urge our officers to solve their issues amicably not to resort to violence.

Burial arrangements are under way for our fallen officers. CPl Nandutu will be buried in Namisindwa, PC Erimu in Kaberamaido and Omara in Agogo district.
