POLICE OPENS GENERAL ENQUIRY FILE ON ALLEGATIONS OF ATTACK BY HON. WINNIE KIIZA

Latest Posts Press Release

We found it important to respond to the allegations by Hon. Winnie Kiiza, Woman MP Kasese District also Former Leader of Opposition (Lop) last evening in a social media post alleging a possible armed attack on their home in Kiburara, Kasese District. These are very serious allegations.

On Friday September 21, 2018 at around 10:45 PM, DPC Bwera Police Station got a call from a member of the public who claimed that Mr. Yokasi  Bihande had told him that some two armed people were in his compound with a possible motive of harming or killing him.

The DPC dispatched a team of officers to proceed to the home of Mr. Yokasi Bihande.  They went along with the person that called the police. Unfortunately, Mr. Yokasi Bihande who was reported to be in the house did not physically interact with the police despite the efforts by the police to do so.  He only spoke to the DPC on telephone stating exactly what the gentleman who called the police had stated.  The police kept watch over the house and saw no one that night.

On Sunday September 23, 2018, Hon. Winnie Kiiza sent post on social media platforms stating that nine people armed with machine guns and RPGs had surrounded their home in Kiburara, Kasese, district, again.  On the same day, at around 9:00 PM, Hon. Godfrey Atkins Katusabe, MP Bukonzo West called the DPC Bwera Police Station stating the same allegations.

Immediately, the police dispatched a team of officers to proceed to the area to handle the matter.  The Regional Police Commander Rwenzori East worked hand in hand with our sister security agencies and dispatched another joint team of officers to support the earlier one sent.  Both teams of officers found no intruders or strangers in the home or even in the area.  The joint forces had an interface with the domestic workers of Mr. Yokasi Bihande who too disclosed ignorance of the alleged intruders/strangers.  The manager and herdsman promised to keep us in the know in case any intruders/strangers are sighted in the locality.

As a result, the police have taken a decision to open a General Enquiry File (GEF) to investigate these allegations.  We await full cooperation from all concerned.
