Police Rescues Explosion Accident Victims

A child aged around 12 years, who has been identified as Sam Lukemba, was fatally wounded this evening at a playing/parking ground in Mengo, opposite the Lubiri Palace, in Kampala, as a result of an explosion from an object suspected to be a remnant of an explosive buried in the ground.
The location of the incident is next to Kyaggwe Road Primary School, and opposite the former military barracks at Lubiri.
Eight other children, whose particulars are yet to be established, have been seriously injured and admitted to Mulago Referral Hospital and Mengo Hospital.
The body of the deceased has been taken to Mulago Referral Hospital for further examination.
A team of bomb experts has responded and is assessing the scene for more details.
We want to caution members of the public – especially children – against playing or tampering with objects they are not sure of. In cases where unidentified objects are involved, please inform the police immediately for further assistance.
