POLICE REGISTERS TWO INCIDENTS OF TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS

The territorial police in Busoga North and Buyende, has 6 suspects for the alleged trafficking of persons for labour from Nadiope village, Bukutula parish in Irundu sub county on the 11.10.2023, at 7pm.. The suspects arrested include; Kafuuma Charles, Mubiru John, Seguya Ron, Kamini Tom (driver), Balikoowa James and Kabanda Nasif.  They were paying cash Ugx 50,000 upto Ugx150,000/=, as upkeep for family members, as they promised to take  them for work as casual labourers at Ziwa ranchers in Nakasongola district. The coaster minibus under registration number UBF 222L was impounded, and the victims registered released.

In a separate development on the 13.10.2023 at the new Nile Bridge in Nalufenya cell, 6 Eritreans were intercepted on the 13.10.2023, by police officers at the check point, while being driven in Toyota wish under registration number, UBK918Y, from Busia to Kampala by Nsanzamahoro Sylvain. The driver was arrested and charged with human trafficking and his motor vehicle impounded. The 6 Eritreans were charged with illegal entry and handed over to the Immigration office in Jinja.

As the Joint Security Agencies, we continue to actively fight and disrupt all criminal networks of trafficking in persons for exploitative labour and other forms of human trafficking. We call upon the public to alert the nearest police if they come across a potential trafficking situation.
