PRESS RELEASE

The Police are mourning the tragic outcome of yesterday’s plane crash, upon learning that it claimed the life of Commissioner of Police (CP), Alalo Christine, who was working with the African Mission in Somalia, (AMISOM), as the Acting Police Commissioner. The officer was returning from Italy to Mogadishu, Somalia and was one of the victims in the Ethiopian Flight ET 302, which crashed yesterday killing all occupants aboard.

The IGP has shared the sad news with the immediate family members of the fallen officer, and created a task team headed by the Director Peace Support Operations, AIGP Grace Turyagumanawe, to coordinate with both, the AU Headquarters and Ethiopian Airlines to ensure the remains of our officer are traced and transported to her family in Uganda for burial.

The relatives have been further notified that the positive identification process and other protocols at the African Union will probably cause a delay in the arrival of the body remains of the officer. The Director Police Health Services is expected to travel in advance with an immediate family member to Addis Ababa, to support the identification process.

At the time of her death, CP Alalo Christine was serving as the Acting Police Commissioner, AMISOM, and her tour of duty was expected to end in June, 2019.  She joined the police as a Cadet/ ASP on 18/08/2001, and served in various capacities of command. She was a highly respected member of the force who loved her job. She died while on duty and ably carried the image of the force and our country Uganda to greater heights and will be sadly missed. She is survived by two sons, Emmanuel and Alvin and we stand by them, all relatives and friends, during this difficult time.

We shall progressively update the public on funeral arrangements.  May the soul of CP Alalo Christine rest in eternal peace.
