MIN OF INTERNAL AFFAIRS LAYS STRATEGY TO CURB TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS

The Coordination Office for Prevention of Trafficking in Persons Office (COPTIP) has successfully crafted a communication strategy, a significant step in Uganda’s fight against trafficking in persons.

The move has been endorsed by the National Task Force Committee against trafficking in persons Chaired by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Internal Affairs organized by the coordination office for preventing trafficking in persons.

According to the National Coordinator, Commissioner of Police Twinomujuni Julius, the meeting validated the communication strategy that will soon be launched and disseminated to the stakeholders to guide in carrying out awareness campaigns against human trafficking and sensitization of the public.

CP Twinomujuni says this is a major achievement tipped to aide them effectively engage their target audiences through well-crafted messages that align with stakeholders’ responsibilities. This coordinated approach will help collaboration with other entities to achieve their goals.

This effort is in alignment with the world day against human trafficking theme, “Reach every victim and leave no one behind.”

The meeting took place on August 11, 2023, during a National Task Force Committee meeting at Silver Springs Hotel in Kampala.

Operating under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Coordination Office for Prevention of Trafficking in Persons collaborates closely with partners to combat this vice.

The mission involves initiating, developing, implementing, and supporting national strategies to effectively counter and respond to human trafficking in Uganda.
