Uganda Police in Kabarole district is holding a 29 year old man for impersonating as a Medical Officer and conning residents of the area that he would get for them jobs with the hospital.
The suspect is identified as WAMANI EDWARD a resident of Kihoro village Katoma Sub County in Hoima district.
The suspect who is currently held at Fort Portal Police Station was arrested yesterday (14/32014) from Buhinga Referral Hospital in Kabarole district.
It is alleged that Wamani obtained money worth Shs 350,000 (Three hundred and fifty thousand shillings only) from one Bogere Agnes Mary a resident of Kisenyi in Fort portal municipality under pretext of getting her a job at Buhinga Hospital as an interpreter. The suspect, who was falsely branding himself as a medical officer of the said hospital, convinced Bogere that there are some expertises (whites) who are coming to the hospital to sensitize the communities about HIV/AIDS and will need interpreters in the local languages.
On the fateful day it is alleged that Bogere had an appointment with the suspect to discuss the way forward pertaining to the job only to disagree and ended up in a scuffle which attracted the public and the hospital administrators leading to his arrest.
Immediately after his arrest, more complainants came up claiming to have been conned by the same suspect.
