Inspectorate Department

 

Article 213 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda provides the Uganda Police Force shall be under the command of the Inspector General of Police; who is assisted by the Deputy Inspector General of Police in the performance of his or her functions.  The Inspector General of Police (IGP) is the Chief Executive and Chief in Command of Uganda Police Force. The departments like:

  • Inspectorate department,
  • Police Women Affairs,
  • Finance and Office Support Services,
  • Police Force Press Unit
  • Professional Standards Unit are under the office of the IGP.

Inspectorate Department

This is a line function which reports to the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP). The department has the following divisions;

  • Monitoring and Evaluation
  • General Inspection
  • Special Inspection

 

Functions for the Department

  • Coordinate and regulate all inspection activities in the Police Force to ensure that they; are in line with the policies and regulations of the Uganda Police Force;
  • Prepare periodic inspection reports and submit them to the IGP for action;
  • Identify training needs in the Department;
  • Carry out special inspection assignments of reactive and thematic nature;
  • Keep track of the activities in the institution that have not been executed according to plan;
  • Analyze Inspection review information for different Departments and Units with a view of monitoring change;
  • Prepare work plans and budgets for the Inspection Department and submit them to relevant authorities;
  • Handle staff affairs and administrative issues within the Department.
