Latest Posts Press Release

The IGP has applauded Detective Constable Ibanda Stanley, attached to Old Kampala Divisional Police Headquarters, for rejecting a bribe of shs. 1 million, which was offered to him by Asiimwe Olivia, to forego an investigation and potential prosecution, of her brother Akanyijuka Ivan, who had been arrested with two of his accomplices, Kavuma Barnabas and Kato Ivan, for robbery.  The trio are one of the criminal gangs behind the mugging and robbery of pedestrians.

On the 11.03.2022 at around 11:45pm, while armed with knives, they attacked and stabbed, a one Muganga Musa, a Chapati maker and robbed him of his money totalling 60,000/=.  The victim made an alarm which attracted the attention of police officers on patrol, who pursued the suspects and arrested them. It is during the course of investigations, that Asiimwe Olivia, a sister to Akanyijuka Ivan, raised one million shillings to bribe the investigating officer.

Instead of secretly taking the bribe, the investigating officer, decided to turn to his supervisor ASP Omar Karim, an action that led to the arrest of the suspect.  The act of the two officers is representative of the outstanding work of the UPF, in close coordination with other agencies to promote transparency, integrity and professionalism, by our officers who are at the front line.  We are happy that a vast majority of the UPF are committed and dedicated while performing their duties.

We continue to warn the public that there are consequences in trying to bribe a police officer.  It is an offence that is punishable by law.  Every time, you attempt to bribe an officer who has a duty to protect and serve, you tarnish his badge, which can not be tolerated.  The three suspects of Aggravated Robbery, were charged at Mwanga II court and remanded.

The arrest, therefore, demonstrates our commitment and resolve to fight and stamp our corrupt tendencies in the force.  The suspect Asiimwe Olivia is pending court.
