Fire has this morning gutted residences of some police officers at Katwe police barracks in Kampala.
According to the spokesperson of the police directorate of fire, prevention and rescue services, ASP Collin Agaba, the fire started at around 9:30am.
“When we received a call from Katwe police station, we rushed to the scene and found 10 houses of police officers were on fire,” Agaba said.
“We have done our best to put out the fire but there was extreme damage to the property in the affected houses.”
He added that the fire unit also managed to save Katwe police station and the other parts of the barracks from the fire.
Agaba said the cause of the fire is not yet established but the fire investigators are on ground to ascertain its cause.
