Latest Posts Press Release

It’s now four days to the end of year 2018. We acknowledge that this season is filled with activities and celebrations, prominent among which are the 31/1 fireworks displays across the country.

So far, the security sector has cleared a total of 762 places where fireworks will be displayed. Those that will be displaying fireworks have been given strict guidelines to adhere to, failure of which will attract severe penalties which might include stopping them from the exercise.

The companies that have been cleared to display fireworks are the following:

Ms Tomil Fireworks Ltd.

Ms. Sky Flames (U) Ltd.

Ms. Quality Lighting Ltd.

Ms. Extremes Events Ltd.

Ms. Goshen Africa Events Ltd.

Ms. Light Africa (U) Ltd.

  1. These are mandated to advertise widely on all media platforms.
  2. Have fireworks materials not exceeding 1.5 caliber.
  3. Display for only 5 minutes.

The area DPCs reserve the right to stop any display if those displaying defy guidelines.

  1. All fireworks materials will be escorted by our Police Counter Terrorism teams.
  2. All materials not displayed will be handed over to our Counter Terrorism teams for safe custody.
  3. Those to conduct the exercise of display must be persons with explosives blaster licence (Fireworks licence).
  4. All venues to host the displays will be inspected to ensure suitability by the Counter Terrorism teams together with area Police Commanders.

Again, members of the public are warned against burning car tyres in the middle of the roads or elsewhere as this has consequences. The public should be careful and sensitive to what actually happens as we welcome the New Year. Some criminal elements might attack and injure or kill their victims whose alarms might be mistaken for the excitement welcoming the New Year.

Motorists across the country should exercise discipline on the road to avoid causing accidents. Our traffic teams and the High Way Traffic Patrol Unit are fully briefed and deployed to oversee everyone’s safety and security on the roads and high ways.

We advise that members of the public remain vigilant and alert to detect and deter any form of criminality through effective communication and coordination with security in the areas. It is therefore imperative that all keep the relevant telephone numbers of their area police stations.

Uganda Police Force is fully prepared to secure all people and their property during this festive season and beyond. Let’s join hands to sail through the old year and be ushered into the New Year 2019 peacefully.

All must remember to keep their homes, business premises safe and secure against natural disasters and crimes.
