3 GUNS RECOVERED IN TWO SEPARATE VIOLENT INCIDENTS OF MURDERS BY SHOOTING IN MARACHA AND SOROTI CITY RESPECTIVELY

The territorial Police units in West Nile and East Kyoga regions, carried out a very successful, intelligence-led operations, that led to the recovery of 3 guns and the arrest of 3 notorious suspects, linked to the violent murders by shooting in Maracha and Soroti city respectively.

In West Nile region, the territorial Police in coordination with Flying Squad and UPDF, tracked down two suspects, who form part of a criminal armed gang, which shot dead, a one Mawa Bosco, a 38-year-old, peasant farmer of Obayia village, Anguruma parish, Paranga subcounty in Maracha District, on the 10.07.2023. The victim was in the company of his girlfriend, near the border with DRC. The four thugs in military fatigue, emerged from the DRC, armed with two AK47 SMG, shot him dead, robbed his motorcycle and rode back to the DRC.

The two arrested suspects include; Dramuke Robert alias Waigo, a 38-year-old, resident of Ocevu cell, Tabia ward, in Maracha District and Swaibu Magutani alias Boy, a 24-year-old, resident of Kulubu cell, Odia ward in Koboko District. Upon further interrogation, they admitted to having participated in the aggravated robbery of the motorcycle and murder, and led the task team to the successful recovery of the two AK47 guns, without magazines.

In a separate development, the territorial Police in East Kyoga and Soroti City, also arrested a one Orego Francis, aged 40 for the murder by shooting of Musisi John Baptist, on the 30.06.2023 at around 8:00pm, at Opiyai ‘’A’’ cell, East Division in Soroti.

The two thugs attacked the victim, whom they found watching news with his granddaughter, Nantongo Flavia, and threatened to shoot him, if he did not give them money. After failing to get money, the attackers moved out of the house. They however, shot and killed the victim instantly, when they realized, that he was following them. Upon arrest, the suspect admitted to have killed the victim, and therefore, led the Task team to the recovery of the murder weapon, a gun, that was hidden in his mother’s garden. The suspect is still admitted at Soroti hospital where he is being guarded. He will appear in court when he fully recovers.

We would like to thank the Task team of officers, for the phenomenon job of recovering 3 guns in illegal hands. Taking illegal guns out of our communities, prevents future instances of gun violence and related tragedies. The suspects are being processed for court on charges of murder and aggravated robberly, respectively.
