THUGS ATTACK THE WESTERN DISTRICTS OF KASESE, BUNDIBUGYO AND KASESE

Today, 5th July, 2014, groups of thugs armed with pangas, spears and guns and suspected to be radical elements linked to the Obusinga bwa Rwenzururu, a Bukonjo cultural institution, descended on the towns of Kasese, Bundibugyo and Karugutu in Ntoroko District. The Police and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) successfully countered them.

In Kasese, they attacked two Policemen guarding the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) weighbridge at Katungulu along the Mbarara-Kasese highway. In the attack, one Special Police Constable (SPC) Muhindo Jacob was killed. His colleague, Tumwiine Amos however, successfully fought off the attackers and survived.

The thugs further attacked and killed six people in Bigando division of Kasese town that included a UPDF veteran Corporal Tibimanya Grace with his three children while his mother went missing. The thugs also killed three other civilians in Ibuga division.
In Bundibugyo, another group of thugs first attacked Kicho Police Post, after attacked Bundibugyo Police Station, and killed two Policemen that included Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mugume Bataka Wilson the Officer-in-Charge Station and Police Constable Aliga Swaibu.

Four of the attackers were killed and seventeen others arrested for further interrogation. They will help the Police to establish their identity and motive of the attacks.
In Ntoroko District, the fourth group of thugs attempted to attack Karugutu Police Station but fell in an ambush near the station and two were shot dead.
The situation in Bundibugyo, Kasese and Ntoroko is now calm thanks to the combined forces of the Police and UPDF in the respective districts.
