Police condemns attack on pentecostal church in kyegwegwa

The Uganda Police has strongly condemned an attack on worshippers attending night prayers at Mungumwema Pentecostal Church in Mugoma Parish, Apunyo sub-county in Kyegegwa District today 27/06/2014 at 2 a.m by a group of unidentified Muslims from Mugoma Mosque.

The attackers who were armed with pangas, sticks, and guns hacked dead a female worshipper only identified as Beata and injured several others who fled from the scene. The attackers thereafter retired and gathered at their mosque.
The Police at Kyegegwa police station immediately responded and surrounded the mosque with a view of arresting the suspected attackers. The attackers whose motive is not yet established opened fire and shot dead an Assistant Inspector of Police Mwine Grace attached to Kyegegwa Police Station and fled from the mosque.

The Inspector General of Police has immediately dispatched a team headed by AIGP Grace Turyagumanawe to decisively deal with the violence and enforce the law by bringing all identified suspects to book.

The Uganda Police extends its condolences to the families of the victims and vows to track down the perpetrators and instigators through an expeditious inquiry by its investigative machinery and immediately bring the culprits to book.
The public is urged to desist from any acts that incite division and preserve the national fabric of our country. The Police further warn whoever tries to destabilize the country will face the strong arms of the law.
