IDEOLOGICAL TRAINING, THE POLICE TORCH

By C/ASP Kituma Rusoke.
Ideological training defines the complexities of society and enables individuals to manage others effectively.

A police officer is a stake holder in the transformation of his society and the management of its social and economic tasks since he protects the lives of people and their wealth. To correctly play this role, one needs more versatile attitude towards the community he policies. He equally needs a scientifically driven conviction ignited by ideological thinking. This though advances scientific analysis and understanding of the society he serves, the role he plays in its progress and developments relates to other stake holders.

There are scholars who have managed to reduce the problems of our society into writing; philosophers have only interpreted the world. The point however is to change our actions to match the knowledge we have acquired.
Societies are neither static nor haphazard. Laws govern the history of a society, its production, political, and social consciousness. Therefore, for anyone to correctly influence any of the dynamics in those phenomena, he/she needs a doze of ideological exposure. It is inexcusable to find a leader who engages in directing the course of social events when the dynamics in it sound intricate and confusing to him. In such confusion, such a leader is misdirecting and an obstacle to social progress. It is usually a disaster on the side of officers when benchmarks set by intellectuals are premised on reactionary and unrealistic grounds. But when an officer is fortified with scientific tools of response, he dispels with confidence the legalistic demands, phantoms and intimidation by those reactionary intellectuals.

An officer must have a liberated mind with scientific tools of investigation, analysis and solutions to personal concerns. For instance if an officer’s children are performing poorly in school, why should that be associated with witchcraft? An officer who spends time moaning minor personal problems cannot offer meaningful solutions to complex social problems. He is a prisoner of a wrong conscience and hence can free no one from bondage. Ideological training is largely built on moral principles.

That’s why ideologists have honesty that is beyond reproach. Ideological training offers an officer the conviction to appreciate what he owes the community but not what the society owes him. It also equips work. It is therefore a blessing that ideological training has been propagated at a time when the country wails for lack of honesty and impeccable integrity. The country we live in is in a dire need of transformation. We have a role to play but the approach to use shall determine whether society shall recognize our input or go down in history as failures or officers who misled the people they are meant to guide and lead.
