Overview

The headquarters of Interpol are in France Lyon, and Uganda a member of the Interpol and belongs to the sub regional bureau of Interpol whose headquarters are in Nairobi, Kenya. Every country with Interpol is requires to have a NCB national central bureau and Uganda being a member has a department of the Uganda National Central Bureau of Interpol located at plot 12 Mabua Rd - kololo, Uganda Police Force P. O. Box 2973, Kampala, headed by Francis Rwego, Assistant Inspector General of Police .

Objectives of the Bureau

• To ensure speedy exchange of information relating to crime.
• To prevent and combat trans-border and trans-national crimes
• To foster international cooperation among police forces regionally and internationally.
• To optimally exploit all the means put at the units disposal for the betterment of law enforcement.

DIRECTORATE OF INTERPOL & PEACE SUPPORT OPERATIONS

• One of directorates of Uganda Police Force
• Its role is to ensure international and regional cooperation in the fight of trans-national and trans-border crimes and
• Promote peace regionally & internationally. 

STRUCTURE OF THE DIRECTORATE

• Headed by a Director at the Rank of Assistant Inspector of Police
• Deputized by Senior Commissioner of Police

Has two departments and each department headed by Commissioner of Police

KEY TASKS

• Develop and manage systems and policies for effective management of Interpol and peace support activities
• Cooperate with other Interpol member states on trans-national crime investigations;
• Develop and manage systems and policies for effective management of Interpol and peace support activities
• Cooperate with other Interpol member states on trans-national crime investigations;
• Provide Technical advice on areas of trans-national police cooperation between Uganda and other parties at Bilateral, Regional and International Organisations level;
• Develop and harmonise regional framework to foster bilateral, regional and international cooperation in combating crime;
• Develop capacity to combat trans-national crime through cooperation  with countries & organisations
• Ensure development and maintenance of a computerised Interpol information system/ data base to be utilised by member states in trans-national operations & investigations;
• Develop and operate a secure and reliable communication system between the Interpol secretariat and member states (NCB-Interpol) to network crime information, apprehend offenders and support investigations.
• Liaise with other law enforcement agencies in combating trans-national and trans-boarder  crimes
• Ensure compliance with Interpol service standards

DEPARTMENT OF INTERPOL

The department performs the functions of the National Central Bureau of Interpol.
Each of INTERPOL’s member countries has a National Central Bureau (NCB).
This is a contact point (liaison office) with International Police and other Law Enforcement Agencies worldwide

KEY TASKS

• Implement systems, plans and procedures for effective peace support operations
• Provide Technical advice on areas of trans-national police cooperation between Uganda & other parties at Bilateral, Regional and International Organisations level;
• Develop the human and non human capacity of the department to handle peace support operations
• Develop and harmonise regional framework to foster bilateral, regional and international cooperation in ensuring peace;
• Monitor and coordinate training, deployments and recruitment of manpower and other related peace mission activities
• Liaise with missions on manpower requirements
