The Directorate of Operations is headed by a Director with a deputy Director and three (3) Commissioners of Police. The role of the Directorate is plan, implement, manage and coordinate all operational activities in Uganda Police force
As of 1st February 2011 Assistant Inspector General of Police Kiyaga Fredrick is the Director, Deputised by Senior Commissioner of Police Turyagumanawe Grace. The three (3) Departments in the Directorate are headed by Commissioners. Currently the Departments of Operational, Planning and Coordination is headed by Commissioner of Police Mugisha Joseph.
The Department of Traffic and Road Safety is headed by Commissioner of Police Mugisha Bazil.
Department of Private Security and Firearms is headed by Senior Superintendent of Police Muheirwe Emmanuel.
The strategic objective of the Directorate is to ensure effective operational command, safety on roads, Regulation of private security firms, control of use of firearms and disaster management.
The main activities of the year include preparation and planning for the 2011 general elections by developing policing guidelines and manual, coordinating and policing of major events, traffic management, control use of fire arms, regulation of private security organizations and supervision of operational units in the country.
