BACKGROUND HISTORY
The Directorate of Administration is one of the oldest Directorates in Uganda Police Force since 1906. It is now headed by Assistant Inspector General of Police as the Director of Administration. The Directorate has two Departments and Units namely:
- Barracks Administration
- Police Medical Services
- Protocol, Honors and Ceremonies Unit
- Police Sports and Games Unit
The main role of the Directorate is to develop plans for management of Police barracks, Health Services, Protocol, Sports and general administration of the police force.
1.   DIRECTOR OF ADMINISTRATION Reports to Inspector General of Police and he supervises the following:

Commissioner of Police/Barracks Administration

Assistant Commissioner of Police/Protocol, Honors &Ceremonies

Commissioner of Police Health Services
-
Senior Superintendent of Police/Sports Unit
2.   COMMISSIONER OF POLICE BARRACKSReports to Director of Administration and directly supervises the following:
- Commandant Ntinda/Naguru/Kireka Barracks
- Commandant Nsambya Barracks
- Commandant other Barracks throughout the country
Purpose: to develop plans for effective Police Barracks Administration and discipline. TASKS

Coordinate and manage operations of the barracks of Uganda Police Force
-
Update and keep records of all residents of the barracks and surrounding areas
-
Ensure proper and clean environment with in the barracks
-
Ensure good welfare of the residents of the barracks
-
Mobilize and sensitize residents about good principles of habitation
-
Prepare Work plans and budgets for the Barracks Administration and forward them.
3.   COMMISSIONER OF POLICE HEALTH SERVICESReports to Director of Administration and directly supervises:

Assistant Commissioner of Police/Curative and Prevention

Assistant Commissioner/Police Forensic

Assistant Commissioner of Police Medical Administration & Programmes
TASKS
-
Coordinate with other stakeholders Sector on issues
-
Plan and implement strategies to improve Police Health Services in the UPF
-
Diagnose diseases for the staff and families (UPF)
-
Carry out medical extermination on victims of crime like Rape, Defilement and Assault
-
Educate and sensitize communities on proper hygiene
-
Provision of ante natal services to Expecting mother in the barracks
-
Carry out sanitary inspection to ensure disease control and prevention
4.   ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER OF POLICE/PROTOCOLReports to Director of Administration and the purpose is to plan for Protocol, Honours and Ceremonies.TASKS

Develop plans, policies and guidelines for effective management of Protocol, Honors and Ceremonies within Police Force
-
Plan, arrange and coordinate the Force functions in line with other Directorates, Departments and Units
-
Provide the Protocol of IGP in Uganda and abroad
-
Plan for VIP’s visits and other visitors of the force
-
Responsible for the protocol of Police functions
-
Booking accommodation for visitors of the Force
-
Provide guides and catering services of Police Force visitors
-
Arrange officers’ burial ceremonies
-
Co-ordinate the Police participation in national functions
5.   SENIOR SUPERITENDENT OF POLICE/SPORTSReports to Director of AdministrationTASKS

Implement plans, Policies and Strategies of effective Sports Management
-
Develop Art and Culture through Sports
-
Set up health clubs at different levels in the Police Force
-
Prepare budgets for Sports
-
Identify and develop various talents of Sports in UPF
-
Organize inter institutional games
