Police has warned Entebbe residents who intend to incite violence during the by election that the police will be available. This was said by the Inspector General of Police Major General Kale Kayihura during a press conference at the Media center in Kampala. Kayihura said that they received information that some group of people intend to cause violence during the election, but they will not allow it.
Kayihura says “our sources told us that some group of people intend to incite violence which include laying siege of polling stations to influence the way votes are cast and counted or to steal voting materials enroute. Let me warn whoever intends to disturb the elections of Entebbe municipality constituency that the police supported by the others security agencies, will deal with them”.
He said that particularly the police is concerned with some polling stations of Leisure park, Kakeka, Katabi, Entebbe comprehensive, Mayors gardens, Children’s park and Kigungu. Police will also issue specific hotlines for this purpose.
The Entebbe Municipality parliamentary seat fell vacant when the High Court annulled the election of Muhammad Kawuma on August 3rd basing on the fact that some results at some polling stations were not included in the final tally sheet among others. The petition had been filed by the NRM’s Patience Mubangizi.
There are now four candidates in the race including Muhammad Kawuma (DP), William Wilberforce Seryazi (FDC), Patience Mubangizi (NRM) and Hawa Kibuli (independent).
Nevertheless the IGP wants to assure all the candidates and their supporters as well as the electoral commission that they have finalized deployments plains to protect the process adequately to protect the process and ensure that voters go to the polls safely and freely and exercise their right to vote.
The police has taken extra measures to protect the movement of polling officials as well as voting materials , the public is appealed to report any new or strange people or trouble makers in the neibourhood or at your polling station to nearest police ,security officer, LC or poll official.
The IGP further said that there will host the qualifiers match between the Uganda cranes and the harembee stars of Kenya on the October 8th 2011 that will be held at Nambole stadium. A huge number of people are expected to attend the match both from Kenya and Uganda with many dignitaries
The match has been anticipated to attract excitement given its nature, due to this the police supported by other security agencies will deploy adequately both for crowd and traffic control as well as to counter the ever increasing threat.
More so, the Uganda manufacturers association is organizing the 19th Uganda international trade fair that which is due to take place on the 3rd October to 10th October at lugogo show ground.
This trade fare is mean’t for Ugandan’s and other international traders who will be involved .people will come to expose their trading materials to the public to buy.
This fair will take start on the 3rd October Monday and will end on the 10th October 2011, police has deployed heavy security at lugogo show ground and the surrounding places beginning from this week because of security reasons
The police forces are so much concerned with the trade fare and have vowed to keep law and order they have organized security to observe peace and order on the trade show ground
“We are taking etra efforts to alert the public in view of the terror threat, as we are, of course; also taking extra counter terror measures as well said the police IPC today at the press conference in the media centre.
All people who will get involved in the trade fare before entering will first be checked with their property this will be done for security concerns.
