Today October 7, 2011 the director of counter terrorism Mr. Byakagaba Abas while addressing journalist at the central police station issued terrorism alerts to the public.
He said that the main concern is on security “terrorism threat is high” following the events that are happening at a time when key Al Qaeda leaders, Anwar Al-Awlaki and Amir khan were killed in Yemen and the bombings in Mogadishu and Somalia on October 4 2011.
According to websites and public utterances, the Al Qaeda, and Al shabab have vowed to carry out further attacks, and he urged the public to be security conscious and report to police anything suspicious.
Mr. Byakagaba assured the public that the security agents have continued to intensity efforts to defeat the evil plans of terror groups. He emphasized that the most effective weapon against terrorism is vigilance by owners, managers of public places, organizers of public events and the general public.
Byakagaba assured the people of Uganda that no terror attack will be befall them because the police and other security agents have put in place all the necessary measures to protect all the people living in Uganda.
“The issue of terror alerts is not meant to scare or bring about fear to the public but rather making people conscious of the threats during the ongoing events in the country”, Commented the Kampala metropolitan PRO Ssenkumbi Ibin today October 7,2011 at CPS while addressing journalists.
