According to the constitution
The functions of the Uganda Police Force shall include the following—
- to protect life and property;
- to preserve law and order;
- to prevent and detect crime; and
- to cooperate with the civilian authority and other security organs established under this Constitution and with the population generally.
According to the Police Act
- to protect the life, property and other rights of the individual;
- to maintain security within Uganda;
- to enforce the laws of Uganda;
- to ensure public safety and order;
- to prevent and detect crime in the society;
- subject to section 9, to perform the services of a military force
- to perform any other functions assigned to it under this Act.
