Functions

According to the constitution

The functions of the Uganda Police Force shall include the following—

  • to protect life and property;
  • to preserve law and order;
  • to prevent and detect crime; and
  • to cooperate with the civilian authority and other security organs established under this Constitution and with the population generally.

According to the Police Act

  • to protect the life, property and other rights of the individual;
  • to maintain security within Uganda;
  • to enforce the laws of Uganda;
  • to ensure public safety and order;
  • to prevent and detect crime in the society;
  • subject to section 9, to perform the services of a military force
  • to perform any other functions assigned to it under this Act.
