Fire fighters learn new sophisticated equipment

The Fire Brigade police has completed a two weeks training course for regional fire safety officers which started on the 9th September 2013 to 21st September at fire brigade headquarters following the procurement of the state of the art fire fighting equipments.

 

The participants include regional fire safety officers, OCs, technicians, mechanics and operators. Among the equipments include: a water tank, fire engine, water turret and a turn table ladder (TTL) or a boom platform.

The training is intended to equip the officers with skills on how to safely operate the equipments, maintenance and usage of the newly acquired fire fighting equipments.

 

According to fire safety officers, plans are under way to roll out to the different places of Uganda where fire fighting units had never existed. These include, Lugazi, Mityana, Mubende, Masindi, Kitigum, Lira, Busia, Malaba, Kisoro, Kabaale, Bushsnyi, Luwero and Iganga among others.

 

“By October 15th 2013, we shall have reached every municipality of this country,” said the Director fire brigade  Joseph Mugisa.

 

Mugisa said that the is expected to officially hand over the equipment, which was being kept at Namanve industrial park, to the fire brigade on October 7, 2013

 

The mandate of fire brigade is fire prevention and safety promotion, rescue services as well as disaster management.
